Course Focus
SLR wide angle & wide angle close-up photography of large historical WWI wrecks in challenging lighting & diving conditions

Marjo Tynkkynen is an award winning photo journalist and artist from Finland with over 20 years experience in the industry. She lectures in photography at the University of Arts & Design in Helsinki. Marjo is also an advanced technical CCR diver and PADI instructor with a passion for underwater photography and especially wide angle wreck photography!

Marjo uses a Canon D5 MKIII. She chooses a Canon 16-35mm USM L2 lense and a Sigma 15mm fisheye lense and tops it off with Canon 580EX strobes all housed in Subal underwater equipment.

Course Outline & Content

Daily theory and practice - 5 theory sessions & 10 practical sessions

Dive Briefings - Each new wreck site is presented with a thorough historical and technical briefing to help recognize the points of interest

Daily RAW developing and photo editing using PHOTOSHOP & LIGHTROOM

Daily group critics and general discussion of results

Preparation of an online photo exhibition

Equipment requirements
  • SLR /advanced compact camera
  • Wide angle/fisheye lens
  • Minimum 2 external strobes / flow lights
  • Laptop with chosen photo RAW processing software is recommended
Diving requirements
  • Minimum 18 years
  • Minimum PADI AOW + deep or equivalent
  • Dry suit diver
