Meet the 2020 team

Emily Turton

Skipper

Emily Turton is at the helm – the most qualified dive boat skipper in Scapa. She holds an MCA Masters ticket for vessels <200gt, an RYA Commercial Yachtmaster ticket and a Boat Masters licence for passenger vessels.

Emily lectures in Maritime Studies for the University of Highlands and Islands here in Orkney and has guided many other local skippers through their MCA Masters Orals exams. She is also an RYA Instructor delivering theory and radar courses in Orkney and practical courses through the Sports Scotland National Waters Sports Centre in Cumbrae.

Emily’s knowledge of the wrecks in Scapa is unsurpassed. She is a CCR trimix diver and when not looking after divers is never happier than when she is underwater herself.

Ben Wade

Ben Wade

Ben acts as our relief skipper/engineer and can usually be found making dry suits and providing a fantastic overnight repair service at Scapa Scuba. He is a commercially endorsed RYA skipper and also holds an MCA Boat Masters licence.

Ben is an experienced Asset technician with additional brand specific service qualifications. He also has 20 years’ experience making and repairing dry suits.

Ben is a CCR trimix diver with 21 years diving in Scapa Flow including HSE commercial diving and recreational and technical instructing with PADI, TDI & IANTD.

Wreck History is an obsession especially when the focus is on WWI battleships! When not working Ben can mostly be found exploring the interiors of the battleships or researching the unique history of these fantastic vessels.
